HELEN HART ‘FOUNDER OF WOMEN’S SUFFRAGE IN AUSTRALASIA’
This biography of 19th century suffragist and lecturer Helen Hart (1839-1908) is the result of over fifteen years research in many archives and libraries throughout Australia, New Zealand and England. It tells the story of a woman who, although unknown today, was so well-known in her time, that over 30 obituaries were published at the time of her death.
The book was launched on 31st March 2009 by Anna Burke, MHR, then Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives. At the same time, a plaque was unveiled on Hart’s unmarked grave at Boroondara cemetery.
